Headquartered in Cape Town, the African Crowdfunding Association (ACfA) is a private sector-led
non-profit organisation that represents the crowdfunding industry across the African continent.
ACfA’s members are digital intermediaries (web, mobile, blockchain…) that facilitate fundraisers
(donations, rewards, assets, debt, equity…) by individuals and businesses. When it comes to
platforms which operate in a regulated space, notably securities-based fundraising for start-ups and
SMEs, ACfA plays an important role in shaping the regulatory framework. To this end, ACfA is funded
by DfiD to develop a self-regulatory label that acts as a recognised accreditation for platforms which
seek to start operations but whose home countries do not yet have an appropriate regulatory
About the role
This is a position for an entrepreneurial person who can work autonomously and flexibly. At this
early stage, you will handle all operational aspects of ACfA’s development as if it were a start-up.
You will become the “face” of ACfA and an expert in all things crowdfunding, including blockchain-
based crowdfunding and other digital evolutions in this rapidly growing industry.
growing ACfA’s membership across Africa,
speak at and represent ACfA at international industry events,
building key partnerships within the ecosystem: law firms, regulators, platforms, tech
book-keeping, tax returns, and other general administration,
helping the team with volunteer management and any hiring needs,
fundraising from donors,
marketing & communication, content generation, social media, website management,
assistance with project management and execution of the ACfA label.
ACfA is the leading pan-African organisation in a growing industry. We have an unprecedented
opportunity to accelerate this growth by developing the right enabling regulatory framework. This
means the staffing needs of the association will grow as well as the responsibilities of the directors.
When ACfA successfully raises follow-on funding, the present role could be made permanent. For
the right candidate, ACfA will sponsor courses in digital finance through the Digital Frontiers
Institute, invite him/her to join the Board and Accreditations Committee for the ACfA label and
encourage the development of new revenue streams by consulting to the industry.
Qualifications and Profile
Bachelor’s / Master’s degree (any discipline will be considered),
Passionate about financial inclusion and capital markets in Africa, with excellent general
knowledge of crowdfunding,
Experience in a digital finance start-up or financial inclusion organisation in Africa is a plus,
Excellent organisational skills, self-disciplined and able to work to deadlines in an
unstructured, remote work environment,
Excellent written and spoken English; fluency in other African languages and French is a plus,
Prior experience using WordPress, MS Excel, writing grant proposals and blog articles,
Experience with our software tools is a plus: G-suite, Airtable, Slack, Basecamp, Sage.
Willingness and ability to learn new skills and understand new fields (payment systems,
blockchain, financial technology regulations…),
Personality: Mature, culturally sensitive, strong networking skills, comfortable with public
